The Costa del Sol is Spain's principle golfing playground. The climate - around 300 days of sunshine each year - and development of many excellent courses over the past 20 years has established the region as a firm favourite amongst golf aficionados. The sierras to the north of the coastal strip act as a protective screen against the affects of colder northern winds. Apart from offering such a good climate, the mountains, slopes and valleys provide a wonderful scenic backdrop to many of the area's courses.
